There is something really lovely about an employee who believes in the products they are selling. None of their advice sounds like a business pitch. It’s why I’m such a sucker for Apple products, and why I always end up buying a box of fudge at The Fudge Kitchen in Edinburgh. People who truly believe in something can easily persuade you to believe in the same thing. This was our experience at My Home Bakery in Glasgow.
My Home Bakery is a just a wee shop with cakes in the window, savoury pastries and breads at the counter. As we looked though the cakes, our server delightfully described everything on display to us, mentioned his favourites and his suggestions for our afternoon tea. In the end, we left with a warm fuzzy feeling about the cakes we were about to destroy: a mango and passion fruit volcano cake and a pistachio-vanilla gluten free cake. Both cakes were more flavourful and moist than any pastry I have ever had before. And I’ve eaten a lot of cakes. But were they also flavoured by the passion of counter staff? My exuberant enthusiasm for My Home Bakery suggests “yes.”
